Founded in 1956, the first engineering college of the state, the college has immensely contributed to the development of the state and growth of the Nation. It has been possible only because of a heritage of excellence spanning 50 years. Rigorous academic standards and ethics have been a part and parcel of UCE.

The Govt. of Orissa having recognized the service rendered by the college in the Development of the state recommended it to be upgraded to an IIT.

Now in the Golden Jubilee Year the college is poised to write a new chapter in its success story, to churn out more and better technical professionals, who will continue to power the growth of the state and economy of the Nation in the days to come…

Some of the students honors are :-

• All India Rank 2 & 3 for 3 consecutive years in GATE.
• 13th position in ACM Programming Contest - 2002 held at IIT Kanpur.

• Dr P.K.Hota (Reader of Electrical Dept.) has been selected to be listed in “The Contemporary WHO’s WHO” 2002-2003 published by The American Biographical Institute , USA on the basis of merited accomplishment and success in contemporary Society.
• Dr. S. Mishra (Reader of Electrical Dept.) has INSA Medal for Young Scientist (2002)” given by Indian National Science Academy , New Delhi.
• Dr. S. Mishra (Reader of Electrical Dept.) “Young Engineers Award - 2002” given by Indian National Academy for Engineers, New Delhi.
